2 held with 62k ltrs methanol; booze seized in Bulandshahr

Bijnor/Bulandshahr : In a joint operation, Amroha police and the excise department on Saturday night seized two tankers carrying illicit methyl alcohol at Joya toll plaza in Amroha. The trucks were heading to Uttarakhand from Rajasthan.

The team said the tankers were supposed to supply ethanol, but they were carrying methanol instead, which is used to make alcohol.

This would have been used to make illicit liquor for distribution ahead of the elections.

Police have detained two accused in the case for questioning — Ramaram, a resident of Rudhoni Mundho, and Rekharam from Payla Kala of Barmer in Rajasthan. The trucks were carrying around 62,000 litres of methanol. It is also categorised as a type of poison.

Bulandshahr officers has also arrested two men with two dozen cartons of liquor. “A truck was seized from the Maman Chowki area. The liquor was to be supplied during the polls,” Dileep Verma, excise inspector, said .
