22.5 LMT monthly sugar quota released for February 2026

The Food Ministry set a February 2026 sugar quota of 22.5 LMT, unchanged from February 2025, after 22 LMT in January. Analysts expect a bullish domestic market as Ramadan demand rises from February 17, while Maharashtra mills begin ending crushing, easing oversupply and supporting prices through the festive period ahead.

In an announcement on January 27, the Food Ministry allocated a monthly sugar quota of 22.5 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for February 2026, which is equal to the quota allocated for February 2025.

In January 2026, the government had allocated a monthly sugar quota of 22 LMT for domestic sale.

According to market experts, following the announcement of the 22.5 LMT sugar quota for February 2026, the domestic market is expected to remain bullish with the commencement of Ramadan, which begins on February 17 and continues until mid-March. With the festival, demand momentum is expected to remain strong, and from mid-February, sugar mills in Maharashtra will begin to end crushing operations, which will help reduce oversupply in the market.
