22 LMT monthly sugar quota released for December 2025
The Food Ministry has set the December 2025 sugar quota at 22 LMT, unchanged from last year and higher than November’s 20 LMT. With crushing season in full swing, experts expect an oversupplied market, keeping domestic sugar prices sideways to slightly negative.
In an announcement on November 26, the Food Ministry allocated a monthly sugar quota of 22 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for December 2025, which is equal to the quota allocated for December 2024.
In November 2025, the government had allocated a monthly sugar quota of 20 LMT for domestic sale.
The overall quota for the 2023–24 season (October 2023 to September 2024) was 291.50 LMT, whereas for the 2024–25 season (October 2024 to September 2025), the sugar quota stood at 275.50 LMT.
According to market experts, with the announcement of the 22 LMT sugar quota for December 2025, the domestic market is expected to trade sideways to negative. The market is estimated to be oversupplied due to the full-fledged start of the crushing season.
