23 LMT monthly sugar quota released for June 2025; June 2024 consumption was 24.10 LMT


The Food Ministry has allocated 23 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugar for domestic sale in June 2025, down from 25.50 LMT in June 2024 and slightly lower than May 2025’s 23.5 LMT. Experts say this reduced quota may keep market sentiments bearish, especially since sugar consumption in June 2024 stood at 24.10 LMT.
In an announcement on May 28, the Food Ministry allocated a monthly sugar quota of 23 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for June 2025, which is lower than the quota allocated for June 2024.
In June 2024, the government had allocated a monthly sugar quota of 25.50 LMT for domestic sale. For May 2025, the allocation of sugar quota was 23.5 LMT.
According to market experts, with the announcement of 23 LMT, the market sentiments are expected to remain bearish. Last year, in June, sugar consumption was 24.10 LMT.
