25 km condition relaxed for construction of sugar factory? Policy for Ethanol Production by Farmer Companies
Mumbai: Movements to relax the condition of 25 km air distance for setting up sugar factories have started in the government court. Accordingly, a committee will be appointed to cancel this condition. Also, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured here on Thursday that a policy will be decided soon regarding permission to farmers’ companies for ethanol production.
The Chief Minister was speaking in a meeting regarding various demands of sugarcane farmers and sugarcane transporters in the state. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Rural Development Minister Girish Mahajan, Agriculture Minister Abdul Sattar, Labor Minister Dr. Suresh Khade, former MP Raju Shetty, leader of Swabhimani Shetkar Sangathan, Sadabhau Khot, leader of Sadabhau Khot and senior officials were present on the occasion.
Shinde ordered that the government is positive about the various demands of the sugarcane farmers in the state and to take up the drive to register the sugarcane workers and farm laborers on the e-labor portal. A committee will be appointed regarding relaxation of air distance condition for construction of sugar factory. He said that the matter will be taken up in the meeting of the state level bankers’ committee regarding the fact that civil damage criteria should not be imposed on supplementary agriculture business. A Sugarcane Control Board has been established under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary and he also gave instructions to appoint non-governmental members on it immediately. On this occasion, he also gave instructions to follow the government’s policy of giving lump sum fair and profitable rate (FRP) to the sugarcane farmers.
Committee on Frauds of Sugarcane Transporters
In the meeting, cases of fraud by sugarcane transporters from sugarcane labor suppliers were discussed. In about ten thousand such cases in the state, it was reported that four hundred to five hundred crores of fraud was committed. Shinde ordered to take strict action in the case where a crime has been registered. Factories remain anonymous in such fraud cases. The transporter is overwhelmed. Complaints were raised that in some cases, Mukadam and laborers are also suffering. The sugar commissioner and the labor department should work out a way in coordination. The Chief Minister also ordered to make a law if necessary and to appoint a committee for it.
Accelerate the weekly market
Sant Shiromani Sawta Mali Athwadi Bazaar scheme should be speeded up. Through this means, farmers’ vegetables and agricultural products reach the city and various localities easily. Citizens also get good things. So farmers should benefit from this. For this, the marketing department should take coordinated action for transport license and related matters, Shinde suggested.
