While referring to information shared by the Central government in Parliament, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda said that the government has admitted that Rs 266 crore is still outstanding for the sugarcane farmers of Haryana for the crushing season 2022-23, as of July 17.

Deepender demanded that the state government immediately pay the dues of sugarcane growers along with interest.
“Farmers have been forced to take loans to run their families due to non-payment of dues while immediate payment was ensured after the purchase of sugarcane from farmers during the Congress government led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda,” Deepender said.

“The Haryana government should tell why it has not paid the money to the farmers even after three months of the closure of the mills,” he said.

“The Congress’s Hooda government in Haryana increased the rate of sugarcane by a record-breaking Rs 193 during its nearly nine-year-long tenure — from Rs 117 to Rs 310. This means that there was an increase of 165% in these nine years. While the BJP government increased the price of sugarcane from Rs 310 in 2014 to Rs 362 in 2022-23, an increase of only 17% in nine years.”
