‘6L MT wheat procured from grain markets so far in dist’

Ludhiana: The district administration officials on Monday said its sincere efforts to expedite the lifting of wheat from grain markets in the district was showing positive results as procurement agencies had lifted 44,700 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat in the last 24 hours from Ludhiana grain
markets.
During a meeting to review the wheat procurement operations, deputy commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said the procurement agencies had been instructed to lift all the stock so that more space could be made available for the fresh produce arriving in the grain markets.
Of total 6,76,901.4 MT of wheat arrived in the district, the procurement agencies had lifted 6,18,013.45 MT of wheat. The DC disclosed that farmers had received payments worth Rs 1,267.2 crore. She also emphasised that the district administration had made elaborate arrangements to ensure that the farmers do not face any problem during the entire wheat procurement operation. The DC directed the officials concerned to regularly monitor procurement operations in the district and ensure the availability of drinking water, sanitation facilities, sanitisers, and other amenities. She also asked the officials to maintain the pace of lifting operations until the completion of the season.
