7.62L MT of wheat in grain markets procured: DC

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney of Ludhiana announced that during the ongoing Rabi procurement season, 7,65,229.9 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat have arrived in the district’s grain markets, with 7,62,586.8 MT already procured. Farmers have been paid Rs 1,658 crore for their wheat. Sawhney ensured no hiccups for farmers, directing officials to maintain lifting pace. Expected wheat arrival is 8.13 lakh MT, with measures in place for swift procurement and lifting.

Ludhiana: Deputy commissioner Sakshi Sawhney informed that a total of 7,65,229.9 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat crop had arrived in the grain markets of the district, of which 7,62,586.8 MT had been procured by agencies. While presiding over a meeting to review the wheat procurement operations, the DC stated that the farmers had received payments worth Rs 1,658 crore against the wheat procured.

She emphasised that since the onset of the season, the administration had made elaborate arrangements to ensure that the farmers did not face any problems during the operations. She directed the officials to maintain the lifting pace to make more space available for the fresh produce arriving in the grain markets. The DC expressed satisfaction over the purchase and lifting operations in the district.

The DC said that 8.13 lakh MT of wheat was expected in all the grain markets during the ongoing Rabi procurement season. She said a robust mechanism was in place to make sure that the crop was procured and lifted as soon as it arrived in the markets
