Sugarcane season: Emphasis on starting the sugarcane harvesting season in the first week of November
Kolhapur News : Due to the lack of full growth of sugarcane, there is a demand from the farmers that the season should start early to avoid possible loss due to cane wilting. Although the committee of ministers will decide when to start the season, but the decision to start the season has already begun. This season is going to be a test for the sugarcane producers as well as the sugar industry.
Rainfall situation is not very satisfactory all over the state. As the growth of sugarcane has not been good, it is predicted that the season will last only for 100 days. Due to this, there was a possibility that this season will start late. Experts in the sugar industry were expressing the possibility that this season will start only after Diwali. There was speculation that the factories would start after Diwali due to the forecast of low demand. There is a demand that the season should start from the first week of November, assuming the new possibility that the season will be insufficient and the sugarcane will run away, then there will be no sugarcane. Manufacturers are also supporting this demand.
The ministerial committee will meet
Many factories initially cut immature sugarcane to keep the factories running smoothly after they are set up. Due to this, the recovery of most of the factories is less for at least one month after starting the factory. A slight increase in cold temperatures also leads to a better slope, which tends to increase the production of plants during colder days. Some manufacturers were reluctant to start the season early because of the prospect of a low harvest. On the contrary, the situation is with the sugarcane growers. At present, as the growth of sugarcane is low, there is a risk of spoiling the sugarcane if there is too much heat and not enough water. Therefore, at the time when the factories start, the producers will try to avoid possible losses by going to the sugarcane sludge first. After the possibility of starting the season after November 15, taking into account the cash of the producers, the factory representatives have also expressed their opinion about starting the season on November 1 instead of November 15, while flexing their position. The ministerial committee will have to take a decision on when to start the season by balancing these two issues.
Attention to the role of farmer organizations
This year, in the last phase, sugar is getting Rs 500 more than MSP . Due to this, many farmers’ organizations are demanding that farmers should be given benefits according to the increased price of sugar. Since there is a sugarcane emergency this year, the union is likely to put the sugarcane producers in trouble to get the maximum price for the sugarcane growers. The role of their movement will determine when this season will start. Especially, many factories in western Maharashtra are planning the sieving by predicting the role of farmers’ organizations. Agitation by farmers’ organizations is the first hurdle of the factory season. Due to this, sugarcane producers are paying attention to the role of organizations this year.
Since the growth of sugarcane in the state is not good this year, if the sugarcane season starts from November 1, all the parts of the state feel that it will be a blessing. The sugar mills have expressed their opinion in this regard in the meeting held at the sugar commissioner’s office. Thinking from this point of view, such a decision is expected in the soon meeting of the Ministerial Committee.
