Maharashtra: Sugarcane crushing season from November 1
MUMBAI: Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday gave approval to start this year’s sugarcane crushing season from November 1.
This year, 14.07 lakh hectares of total sugarcane area will be available for crushing and 88.58 lakh metric tonnes of sugar production is estimated.
This year the sugarcane area has decreased by 6% compared to last year, officials said.
CM Shinde directed that sugar mills do not start sugar mills before the scheduled date.
The ministerial committee meeting for sugarcane harvesting season was held where deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, revenue minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, cooperation minister Dilip Valse Patil, MLA Prakash Solanke, former MLA Harshvardhan Patil, Prakash Awade and other members along with chief secretary Manoj Saunik were present.
Sugar commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar was also present.
