SPRING WHEAT PRODUCTION RISES

U.S. spring wheat production was up from 2022 to 2023.

The USDA says the crop was 504.9 million bushels, an increase of 22.23 million as larger planted and harvested area canceled out a fractional decrease in yield to 46 bushels per acre. In 2022, U.S. spring wheat production was 482.67 million bushels with an average yield of 46.2 bushels per acre.

The USDA’s 2024 prospective planting numbers are out at the end of March.

Comparisons for Brownfield states:

Minnesota: 78.12 million bushels, compared to 73.81 million in 2022; Average Yield: 62 bushels per acre, compared to 61 a year ago; Harvested Area: 1.26 million acres, compared to 1.21 million last year

South Dakota: 27.95 million bushels, compared to 34.08 million in 2022; Average Yield: 43 bushels per acre, compared to 48 a year ago; Harvested Area: 650,000 acres, compared to 710,000 last year
