World’s first ethanol-to-sustainable aviation fuel plant opens
The world’s first ethanol-to-sustainable aviation fuel production facility has opened in Georgia.
The facility, Freedom Pines Fuels, is operated by LanzaJet.
LanzaJet said sustainable aviation results in over a 70% reduction in emissions. The company stated that the technology is capable of scaling production to meet the demands of decarbonization using sustainable feedstock and emerging waste-based solutions.
The sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced at the Freedom Pines Fuels plant will be used immediately as a drop-in fuel for existing aircraft to address the aviation industry’s contribution of 2 to 3 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture said the new breakthroughs in sustainable aviation fuel production technology could bring new hope for struggling farmers and rural communities.
