CM Mann reviews wheat procurement
Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday reviewed the arrangements for wheat procurement in the state and said the state govt would lift every single grain of the farmers during the Rabi marketing season 2024-25.
Mann said this year, the area under wheat cultivation was 35.07 lakh hectares and the estimated production was 161.30 lakh metric tons (LMT).
Elaborate arrangements have already been put in place. The yield is expected to be 12 LMT more as compared to the last year, said the CM. Payment to the farmers will be made immediately after the wheat is procured, he said, adding that a viable mechanism had been evolved for this. The Punjab Mandi
Board has notified 1,908 regular purchase centres for procurement of wheat. Mann said the allotment of these purchase centres as per the procurement shares of agencies and availability of the nearest storage points, has been already done.
