Chandigarh: Punjab chief secretary Anurag Verma on Sunday held a meeting with all the deputy commissioners of the state to take stock of the ongoing wheat procurement arrangements and the impact of unseasonal rains on wheat and other crops.
The chief secretary directed all the DCs to ensure that the wheat crop brought by the farmers to the grain markets is immediately purchased and payment of the purchased crop is disbursed to the farmers’ bank accounts within 48 hours.
He also ordered the DCs to hold daily meetings with the procurement agencies of their respective districts to review the procurement in every market. The DCs were also directed to visit the mandis personally.
