MMTC again postpones tender to buy corn – trade

MMTC, the Indian state-run trading firm, has extended the deadline thrice for an international tender to import non-GMO yellow corn. Initially set for May 8, it was postponed to May 15 and then May 22, now extended to June 6. The tender aims for non-GMO maize, reflecting India’s import preferences amid global agricultural trade. European traders reported the latest extension on Tuesday.

HAMBURG (Reuters) – Indian state-run trading company MMTC has for the third time postponed the deadline for offer submissions in an international tender to import yellow corn, this time to June 6, European traders said on Tuesday.

The deadline for offers was originally May 8 and had been postponed to May 15 and then to May 22.

The tender seeks corn (maize) free of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs).
