Monkeys ‘destroy’ 1,100 quintals of sugar in UP’s Aligarh; probe on

In a bizarre incident in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, rain and monkeys allegedly destroyed 1,137 quintals of sugar worth Rs 35.2 lakh at Kisan Sahakari Chini Mills Limited, as per an audit report. District officials suspect foul play. The report holds several officials accountable, including Rahul Yadav, Omprakash, MK Sharma, Mahipal Singh, Dalveer Singh, and Gulab Singh. The mill has been non-operational for two years.

AGRA: In a bizarre incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district, and some rain allegedly destroyed over 1,100 quintals of sugar worth Rs 35 lakh in a sugar mill, according to an audit report of Kisan Sahakari Chini Mills Limited. District officials suspect foul play and have launched an investigation.

According to audit findings, 1,137 quintals of white sugar were reported as spoiled in mill’s records, attributed to damage by monkeys and rain.

Officials calculated the loss to be around Rs 35.2 lakh. The report, accessed by TOI, holds several sugar mill officials accountable, including the principal manager Rahul Yadav, chief account officer Omprakash, manager chemist MK Sharma, accountant Mahipal Singh, security officer-in-charge Dalveer Singh, and warehouse keeper Gulab Singh.

The report has been forwarded to the sugarcane commissioner and deputy director of the Sugar Mills
Association in Lucknow. Chief chemist MK Sharma said, “It has been two years since the sugar mill ceased
operations; there is insufficient staff and no budget allocated for maintenance.”
