UNICA: Ethanol Sales Up In Early May

UNICA reports sugarcane processing in Brazil’s south-central region for May’s first half at 44.75 million metric tons, consistent with 2023. Ethanol production slightly up, totaling 1.99 billion liters, with 15% from corn. Since April 1, 95.42 million metric tons processed, 4.35 billion liters ethanol produced. Sales surged, reaching 1.38 billion liters, 22.37% higher than last year, led by hydrous ethanol. Corn ethanol production saw a significant increase.

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced that the volume of sugarcane processed during the first half of May was consistent with the same period of 2023. Ethanol production was up slightly, and sales were up significantly. 

Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 44.75 million metric tons of sugarcane during the first half of May, up 0.43% when compared the same period of last year. Sugarcane processing the start of the current harvest season, which began April 1, reached 95.42 million metric tons, up 19.49% when compared to the same period of 2023. 

According to UNCIA, mills in the region produced 1.99 billion liters (525.7 million gallons) of ethanol during the first half of May, up 2.14%. Production included 1.25 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 12.4%, and 743.02 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 11.47%. Approximately 15%, or 298.56 million liters, of that volume was produced from corn feedstock, up 10.76% when compared to the same period of last year. 

Total ethanol production since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 4.35 billion liters, up 15.54%. Production included 3.04 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 34.66%, and 1.31 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 11.18%. Corn ethanol production reached 868.05 million liters, up 22.83%.

Mills in the south-central region sold 1.38 billion liters of ethanol during the first half of May, up 22.37% when compared to the same period of 2023. Sales included 909.89 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 51.26%, and 468.86 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 10.73%. 

Domestic sales of hydrous ethanol were at 899.12 million liters, up 53.17%, with domestic sales of anhydrous at 468.86 million liters, down 7.09%. 

Sales since the beginning of the current harvest season reached 4.12 billion liters, up 34.61%, including 2.76 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 60.11%, and 1.36 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 1.81%.
