Shahi: Crop production up by 30%

Lucknow: Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi emphasized the BJP government’s commitment to doubling farmers’ income, noting a 15-30% rise in crop productivity. At a workshop, Shahi cited increases in paddy from 40.51 to 46 quintals per hectare and millet from 20.82 to 27.7 quintals. Other crops like jowar, urad, and oilseeds also saw improvements. Ministers stressed timely sugarcane payments and cooperative sector revival under Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, urging farmers to leverage agricultural schemes.

Lucknow: Asserting that the BJP govt was committed to doubling the income of farmers in the state, agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi on Wednesday said that the productivity of various crops, including paddy and millets, has increased by 15 to 30% in the past few years.

Addressing a state-level workshop on kharif crop at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Shahi said the productivity of paddy has increased from 40.51 quintal per hectare to 46 quintal per hectare, while the productivity of millet has increased from 20.82 quintal per hectare to 27.7 quintal per hectare.

There has also been rapid improvement in the productivity of jowar, urad, oilseeds, groundnut, sunflower and coarse grains, he said, adding that “irrigation is being made available all the time through solar pumps. Agriculture department is working to provide benefits of various schemes.”

Sugarcane development minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary said that prompt payment is being ensured to sugarcane farmers. Animal husbandry and dairy development minister Dharampal Singh said animal husbandry and agriculture are complementary departments. Minister of state for cooperatives (independent) JPS Rathore said the cooperative sector attained a rebirth after formation of Yogi Adityanath govt. Agriculture production commissioner Manoj Kumar Singh laid emphasis on adopting diversification in agriculture. Additional chief secretary (agriculture) Devesh Chaturvedi urged farmers to take advantage of schemes run by the department.
