Bumper Indian sugarcane harvest likely on higher acreage, conducive weather 

New Delhi, June 12 – With the sugar industry advocating for a free export policy for the next season starting October, recent data reveal a 4.5% increase in sugarcane acreage, promising higher yields for the 2024-25 season. Additionally, the ongoing heatwave in key regions like Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra has contributed to a robust and disease-free crop. This development is expected to boost mill operations when crushing begins later this year.

Amid the sugar industry clamouring for a free export policy next season starting October, the latest official data show that sugarcane acreage has gone up by 4.5 per cent this year which will help mills with higher availability when they start crushing operation for the 2024-25 sugar season. Besides, the current heat wave in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra has, so far, ensured a very good and disease-free crop.
