Would urge State government to digitalise whole process to help sugarcane farmers: Kurubur Shanthakumar
Hubballi: Farmers’ leader Kurubur Shanthakumar urged Union Minister Pralhad Joshi to secure more funds for Karnataka’s foodgrain procurement under MSP. Highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s digitalized sugarcane procurement system, Shanthakumar pointed out Karnataka’s ₹700 crore pending payments to farmers. He called for digitizing Karnataka’s procurement process and initiating legal action against defaulting sugar mills. The Hindu reported these developments amid ongoing demands for timely farmer payments and increased state allocations.
Hubbali: Farmers’ leader Kurubur Shanthakumar has called on Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, to address the issue of insufficient grants to Karnataka for the procurement of foodgrains under the minimum support price (MSP). Shanthakumar urged the minister to secure increased allocations from the Centre, reported The Hindu.
He noted that Uttar Pradesh has digitalized sugarcane procurement by sugar mills, ensuring timely payments to farmers. In contrast, Karnataka has pending payments totalling ₹700 crore to farmers. He will urge the state government to digitalize the procurement process to benefit farmers and initiate criminal proceedings against sugar mills defaulting on payments.
