Farm machineries distributed to Oil palm farmers under Wokha
On June 24, the Department of Agriculture, in partnership with Godrej Agrovet Private Limited (GAVL), distributed farm machinery to oil palm farmers and initiated the first buy-back of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFBs) in Baghty Sub-Division, Wokha District. At the event, C Peter Yanthan, Additional Director of Agriculture, emphasized the importance of oil palm for economic growth and foreign exchange savings. He reassured farmers about the consistent buy-back scheme and countered negative perceptions of oil palm cultivation’s environmental impact.
Department of Agriculture along with Godrej Agrovet Private Limited (GAVL) distributed farm machineries for Oil palm farmers and the first buy -back of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFBs) of oil palm farmers from Baghty Sub-Division under Wokha District on June 24 at the office of the SDAO Baghty.
The program was flagged off by C Peter Yanthan, Additional Director of Agriculture in the presence of Z Hukhato Sema, Joint Director of Agriculture -NMEO-Oil Palm, L Sunep Pongener, district Agriculture officer Wokha, Renathung Kikon, SDAO Baghty and Field executive from Gavl.
Speaking to the farmers, C Peter, reiterated the commitment of the industry partner and the department of assured buy back of FFBs from old plantation also.
He said that the department has given extra effort to engage reliable partners and accordingly Buy backs were now a consistent activity. Interacting with the farmers, he emphasized on the importance of edible oil to the economy of the country and how Nagaland farmers can contribute towards saving of foreign exchange of the country through cultivation of oil palm.
He also downplayed and the negative campaign against oil palm cultivation creating environmental pollution and other effects. The programme was followed by interaction with the farmers.
