Procure 15L MT of parboiled rice: Kishan
Hyderabad: Union tourism minister G Kishan Reddy on Sunday wrote a letter to his cabinet colleague and consumer affairs, food and public distribution minister, Piyush Goyal, urging him to consider procuring 15 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of parboiled rice from Telangana this kharif season.
In the one-page letter to Goyal, Kishan Reddy said: “The Union government’s continued support to the farmers of Telangana is clearly visible as a large number of farmers have benefited through the procurement operations of the department of food and public distribution under the ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution.”
According to the tourism minister, the number of farmers who had benefited from these procurement operations in Telangana increased from 5.35 lakh in the
2015-2016 kharif marketing season (KMS) to over 20 lakh in the previous KMS. “This is a clear testimony of the fact that farmer welfare is central to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance agenda,” he said.
