Pakistan: Government committed to pay sugarcane farmers their dues, says Minister Hussain

Islamabad: National Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritize timely sugarcane payments and enhance agricultural productivity. Addressing opposition cut motions, he highlighted the introduction of research and modern technology to increase per-acre yields. Hussain announced the formation of a National Development Regulatory Authority, targeted Kharif crop subsidies, fixed sugarcane prices, and collaborations with China and Belarus for continuous technology transfers. Plans to send students to China aim to double agricultural output per acre.

Islamabad: National Food Security and Research Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain said on Thursday that the government is committed to clear the payment of sugarcane farmers on a priority basis, reports The Tribune.

He stated that the agriculture sector was one of the prime focus of the present government.

Responding to the opposition’s cut motions on the grant demands of his ministry, he said that research and modern technology were being introduced into the agricultural sector to enhance per-acre yield.

Hussain announced the formation of a National Development Regulatory Authority to beef up productivity, along with targeted subsidies for the Kharif crop under process.

He assured the farmers of fixed sugarcane prices and timely payments. He highlighted the improvements in agricultural output, claiming continuous technology transfers—collaborations with China and Belarus—and announced further plans to send students to China to improve agricultural practices and bring about a doubling of yield per acre.
