Lifting of wheat begins at Sirhind grain market
Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Lakhvir Singh Rai inaugurated the wheat procurement process at Asia’s second biggest grain market in Sirhind today. The MLA also held a meeting with the officials of the market committee and procurement agencies to review the arrangements for the procurement process.
Addressing the media, the MLA said the state government would ensure that the payment for the purchased grain would be made within 48 hours. He said in the grain markets of the district, proper arrangements had been made for the farmers.
Answering a query regarding a protest by commission agents against the orders of the state government to use electronic weighing scales, the MLA said the commission agents, as well as farmers, had brought in his notice the difficulties being faced by them. He said negotiations between the government and the commission agents are underway and a solution would be found soon.
He said the farmers had suffered losses due to unseasonal rain and the government was committed to providing them compensation very soon.
