Firefly wins Innovation of the Year award

Firefly has been honored with the Innovation of the Year award at the WWT Water Industry Awards for its process converting biosolids into sustainable biofuels, including SAF. The British firm has partnered with Haltermann Carless for a pilot facility at Harwich, Chevron Lummus Global for refinery infrastructure, and Anglian Water for feedstock supply. These collaborations mark significant strides towards establishing a commercial-scale biosolids-to-biofuels plant.

Firefly has been awarded the Innovation of the Year accolade at this year’s WWT Water Industry Awards for its pioneering process that converts biosolids, a by-product of water treatment, into highly sustainable biofuels, including SAF.

The British firm, known for its groundbreaking technology that transforms processed human sewage into fuel, has forged new partnerships through memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreements with key industry players such as Haltermann Carless, Petrofac, Chevron Lummus Global (CLG), and Anglian Water.

Haltermann Carless, a global leader in sustainable hydrocarbon production, owns a specialized refinery site in Harwich where Firefly plans to establish a pilot facility soon, followed by a first-of-its-kind commercial-scale plant.

Firefly has also partnered with Chevron Lummus Global (CLG), a prominent technology provider in renewable transportation fuels, which will design tailored refinery infrastructure to enhance efficiency, flexibility, and emissions reduction at Firefly’s commercial-scale plant.

Additionally, Firefly has secured an agreement with Anglian Water, a utility company that will supply the waste feedstock for the planned pilot facility.
