Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath participated in a tree plantation drive in Lucknow on Saturday, emphasizing that global warming poses a new crisis worldwide and urging people to take responsibility for addressing it.

“In his call to the nation on World Environment Day, June 5, Prime Minister Modi urged every Indian to plant a tree in their mother’s name (‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’). This initiative should be a guiding principle for all of us in tackling the emerging crisis of global warming,” CM Yogi stated.

He also warned about the future implications of global warming, predicting water scarcity and increased droughts.

CM Yogi highlighted the impact of global warming, citing instances like unusual floods occurring at unseasonal times, such as in October last year and early July this year affecting 24 districts in UP.

Regarding environmental conservation efforts in Uttar Pradesh, CM Yogi mentioned that the state government has successfully planted 168 crore trees over the past seven years, ensuring the safety of 80 percent of them.

Furthermore, CM Yogi noted the state’s initiatives to reduce carbon emissions by replacing halogen street lights with LED ones, thereby decreasing electricity consumption.

He also discussed developmental efforts in Lucknow, emphasizing urban planning improvements and actions against illegal encroachments and land mafias.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign on World Environment Day, aiming to plant 140 crore trees across India. Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav pledged to contribute 5.5 crore trees to this initiative.

On June 5, PM Modi personally planted a Peepal tree sapling at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi to kick off the campaign.
