South Africa’s Maize Harvest Projected to Drop by 19% in 2023/2024

outh Africa’s Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) projects a 19% decrease in maize harvest for the 2023/2024 season, estimating production at 13.33 million metric tons, down from 16.43 million tons last season. The forecast includes 6.348 million tons of white maize and 6.986 million tons of yellow maize. This estimate is lower than the previous forecast of 13.405 million tons issued on June 27. The drop reflects reduced maize production compared to the previous season.

The Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) of South Africa has projected a significant 19% decrease in the country’s maize harvest for the 2023/2024 season. According to their sixth summer crop forecast, production is expected to reach 13.33 million metric tons, a drop from the 16.43 million tons harvested the season before.

The previous estimate, issued on June 27, had placed the upcoming maize harvest slightly higher at 13.405 million tons.

The forecast indicates that the harvest will consist of 6.348 million tons of white maize, primarily for human consumption, and 6.986 million tons of yellow maize, mainly used in animal feed.
