Japan offers to buy 81,442 tons of food wheat via tender

Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) plans to purchase 81,442 metric tons of food-quality wheat from the United States and Canada through a tender closing on Thursday. Japan, the world’s sixth-largest wheat importer, manages imports closely, buying most of its milling wheat through tenders three times a month. The tender includes 53,562 metric tons from the U.S. and 27,880 metric tons from Canada, with various types like Dark Northern Spring, Western White, and Hard Red Winter.

TOKYO, Aug 20 (Reuters) -Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) is seeking to buy a total of 81,442 metric tons of food-quality wheat from the United States and Canada in a regular tender that will close late on Thursday.

Japan, the world’s sixth-biggest wheat importer, keeps a tight grip on imports of the country’s second most important staple after rice and buys the majority of the grain for milling via tenders typically issued three times a month.
