UK’s Yamna to support Oman’s Green Hydrogen growth
UK-based investment firm Yamna has joined efforts to develop Oman’s green hydrogen sector. As part of a consortium with EDF Renewables and J-POWER, Yamna secured land for a 1 million-tonne-per-year green ammonia project in Dhofar Governorate. The project will utilize 4.5 GW of solar and wind power with battery storage and 2.5 GW of electrolyzer capacity.
UK-based global green hydrogen and derivatives investment firm Yamna has joined a growing number of local and international companies supporting the Omani government’s efforts to develop a domestic green hydrogen ecosystem, reported Zawya.
Yamna, a prominent member of a consortium awarded a land block for a green ammonia project in Dhofar Governorate, was represented at the National Green Hydrogen Ecosystem Readiness Lab recently launched by Hydrom, the country’s green hydrogen industry planner and coordinator.
In a statement posted on Monday, September 9, 2024, Yamna expressed support for Oman’s initiatives to advance its hydrogen sector. “We are proud to be involved in the National System Readiness Lab for the Green Hydrogen Sector, organized by Hydrom in collaboration with the Oman Vision 2040 Unit and the Ministry of Energy and Minerals. This initiative is crucial for helping Oman achieve its green hydrogen production targets by 2030 and establishing itself as a global leader in clean energy.”
As per media report, in April, a consortium including Electricité de France SA and its subsidiary EDF Renewables (EDF Group) from France, Electric Power Development Co Ltd (J-POWER) from Japan, and YamnaCo Ltd (Yamna) from the UK, secured a land block for a major green ammonia project with a planned capacity of 1 million tonnes per year.
The consortium intends to deploy approximately 4.5 GW of wind and solar power on its 341 sq km concession, complemented by battery storage and 2.5 GW of electrolyzer capacity. The green hydrogen generated will be transported to an ammonia plant located in the Salalah Free Zone.
Yamna described the green ammonia project as “a crucial step in enhancing Oman’s position in the global hydrogen economy and advancing its shift towards a low-carbon future.”
