Tripura govt to distribute 10kg rice to over 9L ration cardholders for 2 mnths
The Tripura government will distribute 10 kg of free rice to each of the 9.83 lakh ration cardholders over the next two months as part of flood relief efforts and to support the Sharad festival and Diwali. The recent floods caused significant damage to food supplies, including 160 MT of rice and other essentials, with a total loss of Rs 1.22 crore.
Agartala: Tripura govt has decided to distribute 10kg of free rice to each of the 9.83 lakh ration cardholders in the state for the next two months, as part of the flood relief programme, to support the celebration of the upcoming Sharad festival and Diwali. Special secretary (food, civil supplies and consumer affairs) Revel Hemendra Kumar said 160MT of rice, 8MT of lentils, 9MT of flour, 12MT of salt and 1.5MT of sugar kept in 11 godowns of the food department besides 79 ration shops were damaged in the worst floods to have struck Tripura in decades, resulting in a loss of Rs 1.22 crore.
The damaged food materials have already been disposed of to ensure safety and compliance. The special secretary, however, assured that the state still has an adequate stock of essential commodities
