Demand for increase in sugarcane price: Punjab schedules meeting of State Sugarcane Control Board on September 27

Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian announced that the State Sugarcane Control Board will meet on September 27 to discuss sugarcane price increases. All mills are expected to start crushing on schedule. Additionally, the capacity of Batala’s Cooperative Sugar Mill has been expanded to 3,500 tonnes per day. The agriculture department has formed teams to investigate fertilizer mislabeling and is addressing concerns over DAP fertilizer shortages.

In response to the request for an increase in sugarcane prices, Punjab agriculture minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian stated that the State Sugarcane Control Board will meet on September 27, and all mills are expected to start crushing as planned. He also said that the capacity of the Cooperative Sugar Mill in Batala has been raised to 3,500 tonne crushing per day (TCD) from its previous capacity of 1,500 TCD, reported The Times of India.

The Punjab agriculture department has established four teams to investigate the issue of mislabeling other farm products as fertilizers, following directions from Khudian after a meeting with a farmers’ group. The department also addressed concerns about the shortage of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer and the call for higher sugarcane price .
