Members of the Rice Millers Association held a meeting with Cabinet ministers Harbhajan Singh ETO and Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal here on Saturday regarding their demands and apprised them of the issues being faced by them.
Association leaders Surjit Singh Kang, Sukhdev Singh Mehta, Dilbagh Singh Batth and others said the millers had no space to store the fresh produce as the previous stock had not been shifted.
Kang said the ministers assured them to take up the matter with the Chief Minister so that it could be resolved at the earliest. Kang said they also took up the issue of labour charges of mandi workers with the ministers.
The association leaders said they had decided to cooperate with the government in view of the interest of the farmers and would participate in the procurement process.
In a press release issued on behalf of the two ministers, the district administration claimed that charges for the mandi workers had been increased after the labour unions highlighted the issue.
