Solstad Offshore introducing Renewable Biodiesel

Solstad has bunkered 500 m³ of certified renewable biodiesel (HVO) on its vessel, Normand Prosper, in Norway, aiming for a 90% reduction in GHG emissions. The renewable biodiesel, sourced by Eco-1 Bioenergi AS, is produced from waste and residues and requires no modifications to existing machinery. This move underscores Solstad’s commitment to sustainability.

In a notable move to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Solstad has recently bunkered approximately 500 m³ of certified renewable biodiesel (HVO) on the AHTS Normand Prosper in Mandal, Southern Norway. Following the bunkering, the Normand Prosper went on to set up the mooring spread for a semisubmersible drilling unit in the Norwegian Sea.

HVO is a “drop-in” fuel compatible with existing vessel machinery, eliminating the need for expensive modifications. It is produced from 100% renewable raw materials, including waste and residues, without utilizing food crops.

By using renewable biodiesel, Solstad aims to achieve a reduction in GHG emissions of over 90% from well to wake, reflecting its commitment to sustainable practices. The renewable biodiesel was sourced and the bunkering process facilitated by Eco-1 Bioenergi AS.

“This renewable biodiesel pilot is strategically significant for Solstad. It highlights our commitment to drastically reducing GHG emissions and underscores our dedication to sustainability within the industry,” said Tor Inge Dale, Sustainability Director at Solstad .
