Income Tax dept raids on edible oil business group across Bengal, Assam

Divyesh Singh: The Income Tax department has detected Rs 40 crore of unaccounted income after raiding a West Bengal-based business group operating largely in the North Bengal region. The I-T department didn’t specify when the raid was conducted but released a statement on the raids and seizures on Tuesday.

In its statement, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said that the business group is controlled by a person with an active political background.

Searches were also conducted in the premises of a close associate of the business group. This group is a leading exporter of agro products in the Malda district of North Bengal and is engaged in a variety of businesses ranging from the production and sale of edible Rice Bran Oil, mustard oil, De-Oiled Rice Bran (DORB), different types of chemicals and real estate, etc.

A total of 23 premises spread over Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda, Kolkata, and Siliguri in West Bengal and Guwahati in Assam and surrounding areas were searched.

The raid revealed that the group was suppressing its yield and making unaccounted cash sales of edible oils and De-Oiled Rice Bran.
