Shamli: Sugar mill may see delay in crushing operations

In Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, repairs at the local sugar mill are set to resume following successful negotiations between farmers and mill management over pending sugarcane payments. The delay due to a 22-day farmer protest has pushed the crushing season back, with efforts now underway to start by late November. Meanwhile, the Thanabhawan Sugar Mill is scheduled to begin crushing on October 27, and Unn Sugar Mill on November 4, as their repair work progresses faster.

Shamli, Uttar Pradesh: After successful negotiations between farmers and management regarding pending sugarcane payments, repair work at the Shamli sugar mill is set to resume, reports Live Hindustan.

The delay in repairs has already pushed the start of the crushing season back by nearly a month. However, the management of the mill assured that efforts are being made to commence the crushing season by the last week of November.

Contrasting this are the announcements made by the Thanabhawan Sugar Mill that it is scheduled to open its crushing season on October 27, and that of Unn Sugar Mill by opening its crushing season on November 4. Both are currently repairing at a faster pace than earlier to achieve these deadlines.

Meantime, the Shamli mill has faced a 22-day halt to its repair work because of an extended protest by farmers who are demanding payment of their dues. After the withdrawal of the protest, repairs can be taken up again at the mill, but it is already running behind schedule by 22 days.
