Health Dept team seals 9K litres of ‘adulterated’ ghee at industrial unit
The Health Department in Sriganganagar seized 9,000 liters of adulterated ghee and destroyed 245 liters of non-edible oil from a unit in the RIICO Industrial Area. A team of the Health Department today sealed 9,000 litres of ‘adulterated’ ghee and destroyed 245 litres of non-edible oil at a unit in the RIICO Industrial Area of Sriganganagar.
Chief Medical Health Officer (CMHO) Ajay Singla said the department today received information about spurious desi ghee being prepared in an industrial unit by mixing palm oil, refined and essence. The state and district-level team jointly raided the food product unit in the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation Limited (RIICO) area. Some workers fled the site on noticing the team. The factory owner later reached the spot on being informed and presented the necessary documents.
The team conducted a thorough inspection and recovered vegetable ghee, palm oil and essence to be allegedly used for making desi ghee.
State food safety officers Vinod Sharma, Amit Sharma and Devendra Jadon along with district food safety officers Kanwarpal Singh and Hansraj Godara were among the members of the raiding team.
The CMHO appealed to the general public to inform them about those adulterating food items. If the complaint was found true and food item unsafe, the department would give a reward of Rs 51,000 to the complainant in two instalments. The name and identity of the person giving the information would be kept secret. Information about traders whose food items were found to be substandard, misbranded or unsafe would be made public, the officer added.
