USDA: Corn use for ethanol production reaches 473 million bushels in August

The USDA recently released its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report for October, reporting that corn use for fuel ethanol production in August was up significantly when compared to the same month of last year.
Total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses was 525 million bushels in August, down 2% when compared to the previous month but up 7% from August 2023. Usage included 91.9% for alcohol and 8.1% for other purposes.
Corn use for fuel alcohol production reached 473 million bushels in August, down 2% when compared to July, but up 7% from August of last year. Corn consumed for dry milling fuel production and wet milling fuel production was 91.8% and 8.2%, respectively.
At dry mills, condensed distillers solubles production was at 97,561 tons in August, up from 90,835 tons the previous month, but down from 118,801 tons in August of last year. Corn oil production was at 196,556 tons, down from 204,818 tons in July, but up from 183,162 tons in August of last year. Distillers dried grains production fell to 390,794 tons, down from both 393,863 tons in July and 400,511 tons in August 2023. Distillers dried grains with solubles production reached nearly 2 million tons, down slightly when compared to the previous month, but up when compared to the 1.81 million tons produced in August of last year. Distillers wet gains production reached 1.23 million tons, up from 1.22 million tons in July, but down from 1.3 million tons in August 2023. Modified distillers grain production fell to 377,207 tons, down from 396,354 tons in July and 393,043 tons in August of last year.
At wet mills, corn germ meal production was at 61,668 tons in August, down from 64,601 tons in July, but up from 50,251 tons in August 2023. Corn gluten feed production was at 291,428 tons, down from 293,887 tons the previous month, but up from 257,948 tons in August of last year. Corn gluten meal production fell to 116,255 tons, down from both the 118,626 tons produced in July and the 127,748 tons produced in August 2023. Wet corn gluten feed production fell to 191,305 tons, down from 210,013 tons the previous month and 207,397 tons in August of the previous year.
At dry and wet mills, carbon dioxide captured reached 271,130 tons in August, up from both 234,156 tons in July and 233,525 tons in August 2023.
