Man held in city, ₹1cr worth brown sugar seized
Bhubaneswar: The special task force (STF) of the state crime branch on Sunday
seized around 1.1 kg brown sugar worth more than Rs 1 crore from a government quarters in Unit-8 area of the city. Chittaranjan Sahoo, who has been staying on rent, has been arrested for allegedly possessing the brown sugar.
“We will write to the general administration department to identify the employee who was allotted the quarters. How Sahoo got the government quarters on rent will be investigated,” STF’s SP, K K Panigrahi said.
Sahoo, who hails from Dhenkanal district, has been running a small garage near the quarters for the last two years. He had hidden the brown sugar in the midst of garage spare parts in the room.
“Acting on a tip-off, we raided the quarters with the help of Nayapalli police and seized the brown sugar. Sahoo could not give us a explanation on the source of procurement,” Panigrahi said. TN
