Punjab : Sugar mill officials’ property up for auction

The administration in Phagwara announced an auction of 17 properties belonging to Golden Sandhar Sugar Mills’ officials to recover ₹27 crore owed to sugarcane farmers for the 2021-22 season. The auction, organized by the Tehsildar, aims to clear the arrears. Meanwhile, the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Doaba) discussed strategies to intensify protests, including a march to Delhi starting December 6, over delayed payments and farmers’ grievances.

Keeping in view the non-payment of Rs 27 crore arrears of sugarcane growers, the administration has announced to hold an auction of 17 different properties of Golden Sandhar Sugar Mills, Phagwara.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Jashanjit Singh, while confirming this, told this correspondent here today that the Tehsildar, Phagwara, will hold an auction of these properties on November 29 to pay the arrears of the farmers.SDM Jashanjit Singh said that these properties of mill directors include: 20 kanal 10 marla kothi of Ambir Singh Wahid in village Dhack Bhularai; 7 kanal 6 marla kothi of Balbir Kaur Sandhar in Phagwara city; 54 kanal 7 marla land of Harpreet Singh Bains in village Bidd Dhandholi; 89 kanal land of Balbir Kaur Sandhar in village Nihalgarh; 104 kanal 7 marla land of Balbir Kaur Sandhar in village Jagatpur-Jattan; 18 kanal 16 marla land of Jaskaran Singh Bains in village Bidd Dhandoli; 19 kanal 6 marla land of Balbir Kaur Bains in village Bidd Dhandoli; 22 kanal 4 marla land of Balbir Kaur in village Rawalpindi; 46 kanal 12 marla land of Jaskaran Singh Bains in village Dhandholi; 76 kanal 3 marla land of Harpreet Singh Bains in village Dhak Dhandoli; 3 kanal 4.50 marla land of Harpreet Singh in village Bidd Dhandoli;2 kanal 8 marla of Sandip Singh Wahid in village Khurampur; 7 marla of Sandeep Wahid in village Dhak Khurampur; 3 kanal 5 marla of Sandeep Wahid in village Dhak Bhularai; 3 kanal 2 marla of Rupinder Kaur Wahid in Bhularai; 2 kanal 8 marla of Rupinder Kaur Wahid in Khurampur; and 7 marla of land of Rupinder Kaur in Khurampur.

Tehsildar Baljinder Singh will conduct the auction, said the SDM. Meanwhile, a closed door meeting of activists of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Doaba) was held at Gurdwara Shri Sukhchain Sahib, Phagwara, to prepare the next strategy of their agitation against non-payment of the arrears of sugarcane growers. BKU president Manjit Singh Rai presided over the meeting.

BKU general secretary Satnam Singh Sahni said the meeting discussed that approximately 27 crore of arrears are pending towards Golden Sandhar Sugar Mill, Phagwara, for the season 2021-22, which have not been paid to the farmers till now. They further discussed that though the local administration of Phagwara has organised an auction of attached land of previous sugar mill owners on November 29, the revenue of which would be used to pay the pending arrears of farmers, all depends upon the result of auction, said Sahni.

They further appealed that swift efforts should be made towards the payment of farmers. During the meeting in regard to the Delhi Chalo call on December 6, the leaders stated that it has been decided by the leadership of KMM and SKM (Non-political) that on December 6, a jatha under the leadership of Sarwan Singh Pandher would march towards Delhi. On December 7, a jatha under the leadership of Surjit Singh Phul, BKU/Krantikari will march, on December 8, a jatha under the leadership of Jaswinder Singh Longowal, BKU/Ekta Azaad and on December 9, a jatha under the leadership of Manjit Singh Rai, president BKU/Doaba, would march towards Delhi.
