Truck seized with 350 qts of stolen basmati rice
Ludhiana: Khanna police have arrested a truck driver with 350 quintals of basmati rice which he had allegedly embezzled from a rice mill. The arrested accused was identified as Sharafat Ali of Thariya village in Sonipat in Haryana. His accomplice Naveen Kumar and an unidentified accused is yet to be arrested.
Police officials said Sharafat had faked his identity and introduced himself as Parveen Kumar to rice mill owner Nitin Luthra of Guron colony Rahon road while loading 350 quintals of basmati rice (700 bags of 50 kg each) worth Rs 32 lakh.
They said the accused was arrested from Samalkha area of Panipat with the truck containing 700 bags of rice.
SSP Khanna Amneet Kondal said after getting a complaint on May 8, they carried a thorough investigation and arrested the accused and recovered full quantity of basmati rice from his possession.
Cops said as per the case, on May 1, the truck (HR-63D-0656) was hired through a transport company in which 700 bags of 50 kilograms each of basmati rice were sent from Rahon Road Machhiwara to be delivered in Haryana. They added that basmati rice were embezzled by the truck driver and conductor Naveen Kumar.
Another person was also involved in the incident.
