Bihar: Machines to be used for sugarcane harvesting
Magadh Sugar Energy Limited’s New Swadeshi Sugar Mills in Narkatiaganj, Bihar, introduced a cane harvester to address labor shortages in sugarcane farming. Successfully trialed in Pipra village, the machine significantly reduces harvesting costs, cutting them by over 50% compared to traditional methods. Farmers are optimistic about its impact on efficiency and livelihoods.
Narkatiyaganj, Bihar : Magadh Sugar Energy Limited’s New Swadeshi Sugar Mills in Narkatiaganj, Bihar, has taken a significant step to modernize sugarcane farming by introducing a cane harvester machine. The machine, which can cut and peel sugarcane efficiently, was successfully demonstrated in a field owned by farmer Tariq Bari in Pipra village.
Management announced the successful trial and said the machine would soon be available for local farmers. Labour shortages have become a growing challenge for sugarcane farming, which depends heavily on manual work. The new machine aims to address this issue by providing a faster and more efficient harvesting method. Farmers are also keen to adopt this as with the introduction of the cane harvester, their livelihoods will improve.
According to the expert, currently, the traditional harvesting cost for sugarcane comes including transportation at around Rs. 50-70 per quintal. This new machine will reduce that to more than by 50% cost.
