Bangladesh Boycotts India Again! Cooking Oil Worth 1000 Crores Is Now Brought From…

Bangladesh has shifted its edible oil imports from India to Argentina and Brazil due to political tensions, though it imported 11 million liters from India in November 2023. Recently, 52,000 tons of crude soybean oil arrived at Chattogram Port, worth 996 crore taka after processing. Trade ties with India remain strained, impacting commodity availability and prices, including an 8-taka per liter hike in soybean oil.

Bangladesh has chosen a tough stance to ease the resentment in India-Bangladesh ties. Edible oil is increasingly imported from other nations, following potatoes and onions. bangladesh also bought edible oil from india in november 2023. This time around, though, it has agreements with nations other than india on soybean oil.  For what goods does Dhaka rely on India?  One of Bangladesh’s main export destinations is India. Nonetheless, 11 million liters of soybean oil were imported by bangladesh from india in 2023. soybean oil has been imported from argentina and brazil this year due to political difficulties between the two nations. 

Prothom Alo, a media organization in bangladesh, reports that four ships have arrived at Chattogram Port with 52,000 tons of crude soybean oil. In bangladesh, bottled cooking oil is quite scarce.  In bangladesh, the cost of soybean oil has also increased, going up by 8 taka per liter. The two nations’ tense commercial relations have a significant influence. When commerce normalizes and ties improve, that will be up in the air.
