Karnataka State Government waives pending electricity dues of Mysuru sugar factory
The Karnataka state government has waived ₹52.25 crore in outstanding electricity dues owed by the Mysuru Sugar Company Ltd. (Mysugar), located in Mandya district. The decision, made during a Cabinet meeting in Belagavi, followed a request by Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Dinesh Gooligowda, who highlighted the factory’s financial struggles. The waiver will help the factory resume its sugarcane crushing operations, which had been delayed due to the unpaid bills accumulated over 25 years
Bengaluru: The State Government has waived outstanding electricity dues amounting to ₹52.25 crore owed by the State-owned Mysuru Sugar Company Ltd., also known as Mysugar, in Mandya district, reported The Hindu.
The decision to waive the pending electricity bills was made during a Cabinet meeting held in Belagavi last week.
Back on July 5, 2024, Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Dinesh Gooligowda urged the State government to waive Mysugar’s electricity dues, citing the factory’s poor financial condition. He emphasized that clearing the debt would enable the factory to resume crushing sugarcane produced in the district.
The factory had not cleared its electricity bills for 25 years, and a cumulative amount of ₹52.25 crore was pending in this regard with Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Limited.
CESC had earlier sent a notice to Mysugar’s General Manager stating that the power supply to the unit would be cut off unless the pending bill is cleared.
Following the waiver, MLC Dinesh Gooligowda has thanked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the decision as he said it would come as a big relief to the ailing sugar factory.
