An investigation revealed that the farmers refused to reweigh their cane in front of officials, and assured strict action if discrepancies were found.
Lucknow: Farmers staged a protest at the Harraya B procurement centre in the Tulshipur Sugar Mill area on Sunday, alleging irregularities in the weighing process.
Farmers including Riyaz Ahmed, Jagaram Yadav, Prabhunath Singh, Ram Sagar, Rajeshwari Prasad Verma, Bade Lal Yadav, Jagmohan Yadav, Santosh Kumar, Kriparam, Arun Kumar Yadav, Hamid Ahmed, Keshav Ram, Amerika Prasad, and Jokhu Ram claimed that after weighing their sugarcane at a nearby weighbridge, 70 kilograms of cane was missing when weighed at the procurement centre.
Countering the allegations, weighbridge operator Shailendra Mohan Pandey stated that the accusations were false and baseless. He added that some members of the farmers’ union were creating unnecessary pressure.
District Cane Officer Sanjay Kumar said that a complaint had been received. Upon investigation, it was found that the farmers had weighed their cane at a private weighbridge but refused to reweigh it in front of officials. Kumar assured that any discrepancies in weighing would not be tolerated, and strict action would be taken against those found guilty.
