Odisha : Protests Erupt in Kundipol as Farmers Demand Action on Paddy Procurement Hurdles

Farmers in Odisha blocked the Bhadrak-Chandbali road on Wednesday to protest delays in paddy procurement. They claimed procurement permissions were mistakenly granted to the wrong society, causing legal issues and halting the sale of their paddy. Despite repeated appeals to local authorities, the issue remains unresolved, highlighting ongoing challenges in ensuring fair compensation for farmers’ produce in India.

Hundreds of farmers blocked the Bhadrak-Chandbali road at Kundipol junction in Odisha on Wednesday, protesting the non-procurement of their paddy. The blockade caused significant traffic disruptions, with long queues of stranded vehicles.

Farmers from Kedarpur Panchayat alleged that despite being registered under the Mother Teresa Women’s Society, procurement permissions were granted to Shivashakti Women’s Society, leading to legal complications and delaying the sale of their paddy.

Repeated appeals to the district supplies department and local administration have gone unanswered, leaving farmers with no choice but to protest. This highlights ongoing challenges in ensuring fair compensation for farmers’ produce in India.
