Sri Lanka’s state agencies will buy rough rice (paddy) at floor prices ranging from 120 to 132 rupees per kilogram: Nadu at 120, samba at 125, and keeri samba at 132 rupees. This ensures farmers receive a fair price, with the option to sell above these rates. However, state agencies will only buy dried paddy due to lack of drying facilities.
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka state agencies will buy rough rice (paddy) from farmers at prices ranging from 120 to 132 rupees a kilogram, setting a floor price, Media Minister Nalinda Jayatissa sid.
“We will buy Nadu at 120 rupees, samba at 125 rupees and keeri samba at 132 rupees,” Jayatissa told reporters, Wednesday.
This is to ensure the farmer gets a good price, he said.
“They can sell at any price above this.”
Paddy Marketing Board and other state agencies will buy dried paddy, as they have no facilities to buy and dry freshly harvested rice, the agricultural ministry has said.
Reports said fresh paddy (moisture content above 20 percent) is being bought by some millers at around 95 rupees a kilogram.
