Bangladesh Govt may raise TCB dealers’ commission by Tk 0.50

The government may increase the commission of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) dealers by Tk 0.50 to offset rising transport costs. TCB recently sent a proposal to the commerce ministry, citing increased fuel and essential item prices. Currently, TCB dealers transport and sell subsidized essentials to 10 million low-income consumers. The proposal is under review.
The government may increase the commission of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) dealers by Tk 0.50 to offset the impacts of various issues, including rising transport costs, sources say.
It came as TCB recently sent a proposal to the commerce ministry seeking an increase in the commission. The state-run organisation sought the approval as per a meeting of its board of directors held in January this year.
The proposal was sent responding to the requests of TCB dealers across the country. They made the requests due to the increase in the prices of fuel and essential items, as well as transportation costs in the planes, remote regions, and the hill areas of Chittagong Hill Tracts.
When contacted, a commerce ministry official said, “We received the TCB proposal and are scrutinising it.”
A high TCB official told The Financial Express, “We hope the commerce ministry will take necessary steps in this connection.”
Currently, there are 8,273 dealers who buy essentials, including edible oil, lentils, and sugar, from the state-owned organisation and then sell those at subsidised prices to the low-income groups listed by the government.
At present, to transport each kg/litre of the items from TCB warehouses to dealer points in plane areas, the dealers get a commission of Tk 5.0, Tk 6.0, and Tk 7.0 for a distance of 0-50 kilometres, 51-100 kilometres, and above 100 kilometres, respectively. For remote areas, including chars, haors, and hill tracts, the commission is Tk 6.0, Tk 7.0, and Tk 8.0 for the respective ranges.
TCB now operates sales drives through its dealers among 10 million consumers throughout the year. The dealers receive a commission for selling per kg/litre of the items and transport costs.
A BSS report adds: Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) started selling of essential commodities on Wednesday through trucks in all 64 districts to ensure benefits for low-income groups.
In Tangail, on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, TCB started selling daily necessities to the low-income people in the district at subsidized prices. Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun inaugurated the program at the Shaheed Smriti Porudyan on the day.
Upazila Executive Officer Nahida Akhter along with dealers and senior administration officials were present at the time.
Two liters of oil, one kilogram of chickpeas, two kilograms of lentils and one kilogram of sugar are being sold to each person at five points in the district town at a package price of Taka 450.
Two thousand families of the district town will get these products at affordable prices every day. The programme will run from March 5 to March 28.
In Chandpur, TCB products are being sold by mobile trucks at different points. For the first time, TCB products have been sold by mobile trucks in Chandpur municipality without cards on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
