Uttarakhand: Farmers meet cabinet minister over pending sugarcane payments and other demands


Farmers from Bajpur, Uttarakhand, led by Karm Singh Padda of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, met Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bahuguna in Sitarganj on Thursday to demand pending sugarcane payments. The minister instructed the Federation Secretary to clear dues by the first week of April. Farmers also sought a ₹500 per quintal support price, expanded cultivation areas, and access to advanced sugarcane varieties. The minister assured prompt action.
Bajpur, Uttarakhand: A delegation of farmers reached the residence of Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bahuguna in Sitarganj on Thursday to press for their pending sugarcane payments and other demands. The farmers submitted a five-point memorandum to the minister, reported Live Hindustan.
Led by Bharatiya Kisan Union’s state president, Karm Singh Padda, farmers from the region gathered in Sitarganj, urging the minister to address their grievances. They pointed out that despite the crushing season having ended, their outstanding sugarcane payments had yet to be cleared.
In response, the Sugarcane Minister immediately directed the Federation Secretary to ensure that the pending payments are made in the first week of April.
Apart from this, the farmers also demanded an increase in the support price of sugarcane to ₹500 per quintal, expansion of cultivation areas, and access to new advanced sugarcane varieties to improve their financial condition.
The minister assured the farmers that their concerns would be addressed appropriately.
