Maize Production: Wheat and maize production increased due to good rains

In Nashik, Rabi crops were successfully sown on 1,15,000 hectares, marking an increase of 30,000 hectares compared to last year, thanks to favorable late-season rains. While the district’s Rabi season relies heavily on Kharif rains, drought-prone areas like Yeola, Nandgaon, Malegaon, and Sinnar often face crop failures. However, this year’s good rainfall has led to a bountiful harvest.

Nashik News: The Rabi season in the district is completely dependent on the Kharif rains. This year, due to the blessing of rains in the last phase, Rabi crops were grown in all parts of the district. Rabi was sown on as many as one lakh 15 thousand hectares.

This area has increased by about 30 thousand hectares compared to last year. Moreover, due to favorable weather conditions, there has also been an increase in Rabi production. Currently, the harvesting of Rabi crops is in full swing.

The Rabi crop pattern of the district depends on the amount of rainfall. In fact, in half the district, Rabi crops are dependent on rainfall. Often, in the drought-prone areas of Yeola, Nandgaon, Malegaon, and Sinnar, if the Kharif season rains are delayed, the wheat crop does not grow.

As a result, it is time for the farmers to buy wheat. This situation arises every year or two. Last year too, due to drought, not even a single crop of rabi crops was harvested in half the districts. This year, however, due to heavy rains towards the end of the month, the rabi crops have been harvested.

The drought-prone areas of Yeola, Malegaon, Nandgaon, Sinnar talukas have to release water for the Rabi crop once every two to three years. Geographically, the district is unevenly structured and canal water has not reached many areas. In addition, since the Sahyadri mountain ranges and hilly areas are large, water shortage is felt in this area after February. Therefore, the Rabi area in the district is also small.
