Bio Fuel: Uttar Pradesh becomes leader in ethanol production, sugarcane economy linked to ethanol becomes 50 thousand crores

​Uttar Pradesh has significantly boosted its ethanol production capacity to approximately 2 billion liters annually, up from 240 million liters five years ago. This growth positions the state to become India’s leading ethanol producer. The establishment of Asia’s largest ethanol plant in Gonda district, with a daily production capacity of 343 kiloliters, exemplifies this advancement. These developments contribute to India’s goal of achieving 20% ethanol blending in petrol by 2025

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has laid special emphasis on the production of biofuel ethanol during his 8-year tenure. Due to this, UP has now become a leading state in terms of ethanol production. By increasing ethanol production and using ethanol blended petrol (EBP), the target is to take the state to net-zero emissions by 2070, along with taking the integrated sugarcane economy to 50 thousand crores. 

Annual 2 billion liters of ethanol production 
UP has developed an estimated capacity of 2 billion liters per annum in ethanol production, which is targeted to be increased to 2.5 billion liters per annum in the coming years. For this, while on the one hand ethanol production has been increased in many sugar mills of the state, on the other hand Asia’s largest ethanol plant has been developed in Gonda district.

The capacity of ethanol production has been increased in most of the sugar mills of the state. Also, Asia’s largest ethanol plant has been set up in Gonda district in the year 2022. Which is currently producing 350 kilo liters of ethanol per day. Apart from this, ethanol production will also start soon at Pipraich Sugar Mill in Gorakhpur.

the increase in ethanol production, on the one hand, the state is rapidly moving towards achieving the target of net-zero emissions by the year 2070. Along with this, under the policy of Bio Fuel-2022 made under the guidance of CM Yogi, the use of ethanol mixed EBP is being promoted in the state. On the other hand, ethanol made from sugarcane of the state has also taken the integrated sugarcane economy to Rs 50 thousand crore. This has not only increased the income of sugarcane farmers of the state, but is also making an important contribution to the economy of the state becoming a one trillion economy.
